Air Race Classic Team

The Air Race Classic is an all-female cross-country air race that strives to encourage and educate current and future female pilots. The race began as the Women’s Air Derby in 1929. Many prestigious competitors participated, including Amelia Earhart and Louise Thaden! The Air Derby was later renamed the Air Race Classic. Each team is given four days to complete approximately 2,400 miles around the country. This year, the race starts in East Alton, Illinois, and ends in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, with stops in Kentucky, South Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas, Wisconsin, and more.

The Indiana State University Air Race Classic Team has competed in the race 13 times, starting in 2007. Since then, we have placed in the top four teams in the intercollegiate category three times. The team consists of the three pilots flying the race and a ground crew. The three pilots competing in the race include Rachel Brindley, Madison Myers, and Kennedy Troyer. The ground crew consists of undergraduate flight students.

Our team is responsible for raising approximately $15,000, which is needed to cover all costs associated with the race. Among these costs are aircraft rental fees and fuel, hotels, ground transportation, food, and the registration fees for each pilot participating. The support we have through this crowdfunding page will allow us to compete in the race, develop our skills, and connect with other female pilots.
